Bachelor of Arts or BA is an undergraduate program in arts in different branches like English, Hindi, History, Bengali, Geography, Sanskrit. The course can be done only after passing the 12th class in India. BA (Hons) or BA courses can be taken in full-time, part-time, correspondence, or distance learning mode. It is compulsory to study five subjects along with a few optional subjects.
Eligibility criteria for BA courses are fixed by college basis. It is compulsory to pass 12th from the recognition board to do BA. Some colleges also specify that candidates should get a minimum of 50% of the total marks in 10+2 level. Some colleges also offer 5% relaxation in this criterion for SC / ST candidates.
Candidates can build careers in various fields after doing a BA. Candidates can also go for higher education i.e. they can do an MA course in the same subject in which they have graduated. MA or Master of Arts is a degree of postgraduation.
During the 3rd year of the BA course, aspirants are eligible for the NET(National Eligibility Test) exam, which offers the candidates Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship. With a BA degree in foreign languages, one can be a teacher (B.Ed degree required), interpreter, translator, book writer, content writer, journalist, reporter, editor, Public Relations Associate, and many more. BA graduates have future scopes in other sectors such as religious studies, civil service, public administration, event planning, BPO, international relations, any government sector, and much more.
